On Saturday, Manchester City defeated Brighton 3-1 to get back to winning ways, with Erling Haaland playing a key role.
The Citizens won easily to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal, who play Southampton on Sunday, to one point. The Citizens shown no ill effects from last week's 1-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool.
When he scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute, Haaland extended his home winning streak to seven games. The Norwegian received Ederson's pass over the top, chested the ball past Robert Sanchez, avoided another defender, and then slid the ball into the open goal.
Kevin de Bruyne almost helped City increase their lead, but Haaland's 17th Premier League goal of the year prevented that from happening.
Lewis Dunk's leg tripped Bernardo Silva in the penalty spot, and Haaland converted with ease.
The game appeared to be headed for a rout, but Brighton came back into it after City handled the ball carelessly after the half.
Leandro Trossard ultimately received possession of the ball, cut inside, and struck from the edge of the box to beat Ederson at the near post.
Alexi Mac Allister, Tariq Lamptey, and Trossard all had chances to tie the game until De Bruyne, with just over 15 minutes left, curled a beautiful long-range shot into the top corner to give City the victory.
City should have wrapped up proceeds sooner says De Bruyne
"It's just the start, he is doing what he needs to do. The team is playing well for the moment so that's all we can do."
