How Real Madrid's triumph against Barcelona in El Clasico propelled them back to the top of La Liga

 With a 3-1 victory in the opening Clasico of the 2022–23 season, Real Madrid overtook Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings. In spite of facing a lot of pressure, Carlo Ancelotti's team managed to score three goals for a decisive victory.

On the eve of the Paris Ballon d'Or celebration in 2022, Karim Benzema delivered the opening blow with a rebound goal inside of 12 minutes. Vinicius Junior's initial shot had been stopped. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Federico Valverde added to the home team's advantage with a spectacular strike from the edge of the box as Barcelona searched for an equalizer. 

The visitors had a chance to win the game late on when Ferran Torres added the finishing touches to some outstanding work by Ansu Fati.However, Xavi's team would not receive a point because Eric Garcia's late challenge on replacement Rodrygo resulted in a goalless draw.

After a VAR assessment resulted in a penalty, the Brazilian picked himself up and fired an incredible penalty kick past a helpless Marc-Andre ter Stegen who managed to get a touch to it into the bottom right corner. 

Los Blancos continue their league-unbeaten streak with the win, passing Barcelona, who suffered their first league loss of the year, at the top of the standings.
